Twitter In Real Life

Having just returned from two Tweetups in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee, people may be wondering why I would fly all the way to another state just to meet a bunch of folks I don’t know.

I have never been to Tennessee, plus I’ve been tweeting with @HowellMarketing and @joycecherrier for about two years now and thought wow, how wonderful it would be to meet these friends on Twitter in real life.

So on a whim, I flew out to Tennessee with @MomsofAmerica to meet up with and support our real life friend,@JessicaNorthey and her #CMChat along with @HowellMarketing and @joycecherrier.

The five of us took a fun girl’s road trip to Nashville, Tennessee and attended the Tweetup at Swanky’s Taco shop, and then we turned around the next day to meet up with some more Twitter friends in real life back in Memphis.

We met some fantastic artists, @CraigMoritz , @leegibsonmusic and @ben_gallaher in a cozy friendly venue and enjoyed their music and great voices in person. All three are super nice!

I also had a chance to meet @markwschaefer. I recently started following Mark’s blog and it was great to have the opportunity to meet him in person in Nashville. He gave us a nice gift, The Tao of Twitter, but I forgot to get an autograph from you Mark! ツ

If it wasn’t for Twitter, I may have never met all these wonderful people from Nashville and Memphis.  @JessicaNorthey and @HowellMarketing did an excellent job at bringing all the folks together at their events.

The most common question I kept getting asked at these Meetups was, “How do you have so many followers?” My answer is simple: Your followers are not just a number; these people are real, except for the bots. The numbers don’t really mean much unless you get ‘out there’ and build real relationships and engage with your Twitter followers. Give more than you take is my motto.
The trip to Tennessee was fun and I got to meet so many fantastic Twitter friends in real life at both of these events.  I even picked up my first pair of cowboy boots with Amy Howell and saw cotton fields for the very first time.
It was great meeting everyone in Memphis and Nashville!

  4. Ann – what a wonderful way to meet so many lovely people. It was a pleasure to meet you and the rest of the ladies, and I am SO happy I came down and had the chance. Thank you for ALL your kind support of Craig Moritz too, and I will be checking into your tips and tricks. Thanks for those too.

  5. Ann, it was great to get a chance to talk with you and the rest of the crew as you were all headed to Nashville. Folks who don’t “get” social media don’t understand the real-life connections and opportunities they are missing.

Glad you all had a chance to get together in real life. Hoping I’ll make it for your next road trip!

  6. Thank you so much for your post about your recent tweet ups – loved watching all the fun that you ladies (and a few brave gents) had at the live #CMChat. Pictures from tweet ups popping up live at the best!

I appreciate all your Twitter sharing and being such an inspiration to me.
