How to have a happier day!

For a happier day, I usually start my mornings with a meditative nature walk. I almost always take my iPhone along to snap photos of interesting plants and animals along the way.  On a recent walk, I had the good fortune to capture photos of some gorgeous butterflies featuring vibrant bursts of color.   I’d like to share these beautiful, ornamental images with you.

Flowers, rainbows, and graceful butterflies represent some of the things that always make me smile.  What little things bring a smile to your face or set the tone for your day?  I only ask because it is so important to deliberately set the course of your day and guide the direction of your thoughts.

We all have pet peeves – little things or big things that bother us.   I try not to allow these annoyances consume my thoughts and steal my peace.  Instead, I deal with it immediately and move on, or if it’s something I cannot control, I simply ignore it.

People frequently ask me how I capture the butterflies in many of my photos.  I usually just get lucky, but I often find these beautiful flowery creatures on my daily walks or near plants known to attract butterflies – some call them butterfly bushes.   Stunning colors paint beautiful images on flower canvasses while butterflies flutter across the field of view in these photos.

I hope you enjoy viewing the colors of the flowers in this post.  Previously, I published an article featuring butterflies taken with a Canon T2i. Taking these types of photos with this camera is easier because you can snap the shutter fast to capture an image of Mother Nature.

I appreciate these photos a little more since it’s more of a challenge to photograph the subject at such a close range.  I took most of these photos about a half and inch away from the subject using an iPhone.

I have a happier day when I get to photograph things that bring me joy.

  1. Hi Ann, just discovered your blog, and pleased I did, I love this post about your morning walk and the butterflies. I live in a very rural community in the middle of France and every morning take my dog around the lanes and fields near my house before getting down to work. It’s usually the time when I gather my ideas about what to paint that day, I find the same walk will relax my mind if things didn’t go as they should at the end of the day too!

    Will follow with interest.

    1. Hi Gina,

  2. Lovely images. A butterfly is actually a great symbol of how life is beautiful after a struggle. You must be knowing the story of the man, who watching a butterfly struggling out of its cocoon, wanted to help it out. A wise man stopped him saying that if it is released out of its cocoon before it can let itself out in its own time, it can never fly, as the wings need to be released slowly and not in one swoop.
A reminder that we become who we are from all our struggles. Thanks for sharing the pics.

  3. These are swallowtail butterflies I believe? I had stumbled upon one a while back and was amazed at its’ beauty (and size!) My photos came out no where near as stunning as yours did, Ann. Amazing shots! Thanks for putting a smile on my face today 🙂

  4. Hi Ann, how are you? We hope you are fine!

Thank you for the beautiful photos. They look like magic dreams and we believe they unfold your sensitiveness to life.

Our house backs up to the woods and there are so many nature trails around where we live. I get to see all sorts of critters. Definitely blessed.
