Beauty Starts from the Inside Out

Last summer, I visited Maui with Joyce Cherrier. What I learned by observing her eating and workout habits really impressed me the importance of consistency.  I tend to focus on staying positive by meditating and getting out with nature.  The missing piece for me was keeping a consistent exercise routine:  it has been hard to juggle due to my travel schedule.

“The healthier we are, the more available we are to those around us in mind, body and spirit,” Cherrier explained. “We have to take care of ourselves first and foremost spiritually, mentally and physically before we can function at our fullest.” Her advice: do a little more each day than you think you can.  She applies this in her daily routines, nudging herself to advance a little further.  It doesn’t always have to be a big push: baby steps work best sometimes.

“How you feel is a reflection of how you fuel.” Someone close to me had been effectively been gone from my life for the last 15 years.  She was here physically, but she was on auto pilot, and it showed in her actions and her appearance. You need to be healthy on the inside in order to shine on the outside. I’m happy to say that she’s fully present now, and flourishing.

You know how much I love the spread positivity.  I really enjoyed Joyce’s #healthydose tip from her #VZWBuzz chat, and wanted to share her holistic approach to staying healthy in mind, body and spirit.

  • Our choices give us power over our circumstances.
  • If you don’t make your health a priority now, you’ll be forced to make it one later.
  • Healthy is many small choices made throughout the week. It’s those small choices TOGETHER that make a big difference.
  • If you don’t know your “why,” you’ll lose motivation to stick with your “how”.
  • The best workout for you – is the one you’ll consistently do.
  • Each small goal completed paves the road to your next goal.
  • It’s just as important to eliminate bad habits as it is to add good habits.
  • Be mindful of the connection between emotions and eating.  Find positive ways to reward and comfort without using food.
  • The healthier we are, the more available (mind, body, spirit) we are to those around us.
  • How you look is a reflection of how you feel

The key principle underlying each of these tips is that prioritizing your own health is a necessary prerequisite to taking care of anyone else.  As unlikely as it seems, I’m going to quote Jerry Springer’s famous catchphrase here: “take care of yourselves, and each other.”

Do you have any tips you would like to share with us?

Thank you for all the great tips! This one seems to really resonate with our readers… The healthier we are, the more available (mind, body, spirit) we are to those around us.

      Best,
