Techno-Geek Press Tour

When Monica Vila @TheOnlineMom invited me to the Verizon two-day press trip in San Francisco as her guest, I accepted because I love to try out new tech gadgets.  I expected the Verizon tech tour to present sleek, cutting edge technology, but it surprised me to actually see the impressive array of tech tools and gadgets.

I love living in the hi-tech era because technology has the power not only to make our lives so much easier, but can also act as a tool to educate, heal, create, and entertain.  Check out the innovative ways Verizon’s new home-focused tech gadgets keep us safe and comfortable.

Automated Living Spaces – No Longer Just Sci Fi Fantasy

You can choose to start as small as you like when automating your home, or you can go all out and integrate automation technology throughout your space.  If you want to start with something simple, you can add a remote, programmable control for the lighting in a family gathering area or other frequently used room.  Others may want the added peace of mind offered by automated security devices. Verizon even has advanced, whole home circuit controllers and automation devices that work with voice recognition technology.

Home automation puts you in control of your living space.  You control your lighting, security system, integrated entertainment system, pool heater, spa, coffee pot, or anything else that works with electrical circuitry.  As a very basic definition, we tend to refer to home automation as anything that gives you remote or automatic control of things around the home.

• Arriving home after an out of town tweet-up? Remotely illuminate your home for a warmer welcome and added security.
• Left your keys at the fitness center? Verizon offers integrated systems that can remotely unlock your front door or open the garage.
• Ready for bed? Turn off all your home’s lights without leaving the bedroom.
• Can’t remember if you adjusted the thermostat? Check thermostat status, adjust temperature settings, or turn it completely off – even if you’re 3,000 miles away on a sabbatical or vacation.

Using home automation technology allows you to control your home rather than it controlling you.

Cool Design Marries Useful Tech

The snazzy Sony SmartWatch:  SmartWatch wearers can discreetly check their Facebook™ and Twitter™ updates, pause a workout to answer phone calls, or read text messages and emails without having to fish their smartphones out of a pocket, purse, briefcase or backpack.  Users can customize their SmartWatch to fit their individual needs.  These futuristic-looking personal devices also feature access to a growing number of apps on Google™ Play.

The DNA wall was my favorite part of the tour.  We all turned our geek-meters up to high in anticipation of viewing the applications of the stunning hi-tech social tool.  The DNA wall looks as beautiful as it is functional.  It’s a great way to present marketing information, or the flow of any graphically represented process, through an interactive interface. Check out this photo of this must-have device.  It reminds me of something out of a fantastical Hollywood science fiction movie, but it’s no fantasy.  It’s real and it’s awe-inspiring as far as tech gadgets go.
