A fine evening for dinner normally plays like a good film or musical theatre performance. Enjoyable ones have a solid three act structure, such as appetizer, main course, and dessert. But extraordinary dinners have much more; crescendos and subtlety, subplots and strong character, musical passages that cause goosebumps, and surprises that amaze!
We were lucky enough to experience this “once-in-a-lifetime” meal not once, but twice, and each time was a unique experience.
We exposed our senses to something new and found undiscovered flavors at Le Chique Restaurant at the Azul Sensatori Hotel by Karisma, located in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico.
Only a few talented chefs are practicing this art of molecular gastronomy, and Executive Chef Jonatan Gomez-Luna Torres raises the gourmet dining experience to an art form. Perhaps this may be my best experience because of the fusion of Mexican spices, artful design of the plating, color, creative blending of tastes, and excellent wine parings.
Some dishes played like the magical gum in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. As the little girl chews, the favors would change from sweet cotton candy, to a frozen burst of lime margarita (Margarita Nitro).
Or surprises on the tongue, like a cherry ball which explodes in flavor when exposed to my warm mouth (Cherry Campari).
Most dishes shined by their inventive plating, such as the Sikil Pak presented in a history book, the homemade tomato and garlic chips in a Pringles can, or Mignardises by Dolcenero desserts hidden within sticks and stones.
Regardless of your personal tastes, simply calm your fears, open your mind, and expect the unexpected at Le Chique. It was one of most memorable dining experiences of my life!
