My love for them blooms eternal. So, when I read a review on <a href=\"https:\/\/wrightsville-beach.wilmingtonandbeaches.com\/listing\/airlie-gardens\/1767\/?utm_campaign=fall-influencer&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_content=airlie-gardens-ann-tran&amp;utm_term=fwv-blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Airlie Gardens<\/a> in Wilmington, North Carolina, I grafted a daytrip while visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/wrightsville-beach.wilmingtonandbeaches.com\/?utm_campaign=fall-influencer&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_content=wrightsville-beach-ann-tran&amp;utm_term=fwv-blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Wrightsville Beach<\/a>. Pembroke and Sarah Jones purchased the property in 1884 and began cultivating the grounds. However, I learned you can pick up your tickets at the Gift Shop. Be sure to stop by the Gift Shop, too. Lots of fun things there.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to hop on the seven-seater tram tour, it is extremely informative and included with the price of admission. I wouldn\u2019t have learned nearly as much if I had done a self-guided one. Docent led tours also are available, and it\u2019s best to make your reservation two weeks in advance.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Yowl_Gotta_See_This\"><\/span><strong>Y\u2019owl Gotta See This <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Wise up! <a href=\"https:\/\/wrightsville-beach.wilmingtonandbeaches.com\/event\/airlie-garden-its-owl-good\/3410\/?utm_campaign=fall-influencer&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_content=owl-exhibit-ann-tran&amp;utm_term=fwv-blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cIt\u2019s Owl Good\u201d<\/a> is the Airlie Gardens art exhibit for 2021 running through December. There are 10 fiberglass owls created by 10 different artists throughout the gardens. The owls are big and colorful, so it isn\u2019t difficult to spot them. The lights and sounds mixed with festive greenery create the celebratory <a href=\"https:\/\/wrightsville-beach.wilmingtonandbeaches.com\/event\/enchanted-airlie\/4153\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Enchanted Airlie<\/a> each year. Guests are encouraged to take the self-guided walk to take in as much holiday cheer as they can. The dates are Nov. 26 and 27 along with Dec. 3 to 22. Tickets sell out in advance, buy them as soon as you can.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Springing_into_Color\"><\/span><strong>Springing into Color<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A heart of gold \u2014 that\u2019s how I feel about Airlie Gardens and this statuary. (Notice how my dress complements the colors beautifully.) I marked my calendar for a spring visit, when more than 60,000 tulips and 75,000 azaleas are to be in bloom between March 1 and April 15. A definite must visit for 2022. Minnie worked as a garden gatekeeper from 1949 through 1974, when she created many pieces. The sign at Airlie describes her work with the inscription saying, \u201cSpiritual images, bright colors, symmetry, flowers, and varied shades of green dominate her work.\u201d The Bottle Chapel by Virginia Wright-Frierson was completed in 2005 to represent Minnie\u2019s painting and other artists\u2019 works to complete the sculpture garden.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Review-of-Airlie-GardensBest-for-Blooms-in-Any-Season-SculptureGarden-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11363 colorbox-11357 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Review-of-Airlie-GardensBest-for-Blooms-in-Any-Season-SculptureGarden-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"375\" data-pin-title=\"Wrap up your 2021 with some holiday travel to North Carolina. It is equally romantic and beautiful \u2014 seasonal blooms, the jasmine vine-laden pergola, and a four-tiered fountain with a lake in the background. According to its website, one tradition dates to 1905 and that is the extravagant oyster roasts, a local dish. The oyster roasts went silent for some years but they were brought back in 2000 and serve as a fundraiser for educational programs.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Flutter_Over_to_the_Butterfly_House\"><\/span><strong>Flutter Over to the Butterfly House<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Butterfly House is 2,700-square feet of native North Carolina <em>Rhopalocera<\/em> living space. These native species \u2014 including Monarch, Gulf Fritillary, Common Buckeye, and Black Swallowtail, among others \u2014 fly around the open-air house. Time your visit, as the Butterfly House is open seasonally from mid-May through the warmer fall months. The entrance fee is included in the General Admission.
