{"id":3421,"date":"2012-03-26T06:07:42","date_gmt":"2012-03-26T13:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/?p=3421"},"modified":"2012-04-10T06:59:38","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T13:59:38","slug":"how-to-not-get-someone%e2%80%99s-attention-in-social-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/2012\/03\/how-to-not-get-someone%e2%80%99s-attention-in-social-media\/","title":{"rendered":"How to NOT Get Someone\u2019s Attention in Social Media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Generally, I do my best to focus on helpful and inspirational tips. \u00a0That said, when I encounter a situation that some may experience, I like to share my point of view in case it\u2019ll help.<\/p>\n<p>Some of my Twitter friends have inquired about gaining a better understanding of how to get the attention of social media influencers.<\/p>\n<p>While assessing how to best answer, I decided to create a guide explaining<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/2011\/06\/twitter-101\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>How to NOT Get Someone\u2019s Attention in Social Media<\/strong><\/a>:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work on building a      relationship with the individual <strong><em>before<\/em><\/strong> blindly direct messaging      them to share your blog posts.\u00a0      Re-tweeting \u00a0them once or      twice may not be enough.\u00a0 Why? The individual may not have seen your      re-tweet.\u00a0 Have conversations and      develop a positive rapport with the individual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Share some of their content<em> before<\/em> direct messaging the Twitter influencer to share yours.\u00a0 If you would like them to share your post, ask yourself, \u201c<em>Would I go up to someone in real life and ask him \/her to promote me when I have not had prior engagements with this individual? Am I comfortable enough with this person?\u201d <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you would like to ask someone to share your blog content, you may want to leave a few comments on their blogs to get their attention &#8211; or, share a few of their blog posts.\u00a0 Display that you\u2019re active in this community you share with them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep in mind that, just because you do this, doesn\u2019t necessarily mean they\u2019re definitely going to return the favor.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because your own content may not be in line with the influencer\u2019s social media pages.\u00a0 Social media power users do not have time to read all the requests, and most of them will not share something they have not read.\u00a0 Along that token, too, realize a decline is not always personal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Another possibility, if your content has not been shared, is that the influencer you have tried to contact is busy with their life activities.\u00a0 Remember, the social media power-user is not there as your administrator.\u00a0 We\u2019re all really busy juggling our day-to-day happenings while balancing social media, work, projects, family, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you see a post you like and would like to put your spin on it, make sure you revise the content in your own words.\u00a0 It is not a good idea to lift the content directly from the original author without giving them proper credit.\u00a0 Eventually, the author will see the post and note the identical verbage from his\/her site, plus your readers will know where it originated as posts are date stamped. \u00a0Give credit where credit is due!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In order to create positive synergy with your friends on social media, The best thing you can do is build relationships.
