{"id":7868,"date":"2015-12-04T09:15:40","date_gmt":"2015-12-04T16:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/?p=7868"},"modified":"2016-04-10T09:49:09","modified_gmt":"2016-04-10T16:49:09","slug":"i-left-my-heart-insix-cities-i-fell-in-love-with-in-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/2015\/12\/i-left-my-heart-insix-cities-i-fell-in-love-with-in-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"I Left My Heart In\u2026Five Cities I Fell in Love With in 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through travel, I was transported to many alluring\u00a0locations across the globe this year.\u00a0 From the rich flora covering the jagged seascape of Cabo da Roca in Portugal to the winding wintry trails of New York&#8217;s Central Park; from sampling fine red wines in the vineyards of Bordeaux, France\u2014the year was an eclectic mix of adventures.<\/p>\n<p>In every new city I explore by ship, it is imperative that I extend my stay a few days to enjoy the local experiences that are not on the cruise schedule.\u00a0 This year, I found new hotel destinations while traveling through Germany, mainly the cities of Hamburg, Cologne, and Dusseldorf. My romantic adventures with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azamaraclubcruises.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Azamara Club Cruises<\/a> took me through Barcelona and London.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the hotels I am recommending from my travels, and the interesting cities they live in:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.excelsiorhotelernst.com\/5-sterne-luxushotel-in-koeln.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Excelsior Hotel Ernst<\/a>, Cologne<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>How magnificent is the location <em>and<\/em> the view? The grand <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EHEKoeln\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Excelsior Hotel Ernst<\/a><\/strong> sits in the heart of Cologne next to the Cologne Cathedral.\u00a0I was impressed with the tradition and hospitality along with the hotel\u2019s timeless luxury. The grounds offer a hidden secret garden where you can lounge on hammocks reading your favorite book.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sofitel.com\/gb\/hotel-5555-sofitel-luxembourg-le-grand-ducal\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>Sofitel Luxembourg Le Grand Ducal<\/strong><\/a>, Luxembourg City<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Centrally located next to the old town center, this five-star, ultra-modern hotel pampers in every way. The fine experience of their afternoon tea (especially on a cold winter\u2019s day) offers warm, crumbly scones with clotted cream and jams.\u00a0 The best shopping in the world is nearby on Fifth Avenue where all the luxury brands operate their flagship stores. \u00a0And don&#8217;t forget the fantastic entertainment of Broadway shows just a few minutes ride away.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>Ritz-Carlton Battery Park, New York City<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Located away from the bustle of\u00a0midtown\u00a0Manhattan, this Ritz Carlton is \u2014 dressed in business attire, catering to guests who may have meetings near the financial district of Wall Street and One World Trade Center, only a few blocks away.\u00a0 My room had water views of New York Harbor, including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Governors Island. \u00a0Battery Park is a tiny retreat of green compared to Central Park, but is just as beautiful with its harbor views and ferries.\u00a0 The Ritz&#8217;s knowledgeable sommelier and personal chefs also bowled me over with creative cuisine paired with some excellent, off-the-beaten-path wine choices.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RitzCarltonBatteryPark.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7896 colorbox-7868 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RitzCarltonBatteryPark.jpg\" alt=\"RitzCarltonBatteryPark\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RitzCarltonBatteryPark.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RitzCarltonBatteryPark-300x200.jpg 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/400;\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7896 colorbox-7868\" src=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RitzCarltonBatteryPark.jpg\" alt=\"RitzCarltonBatteryPark\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RitzCarltonBatteryPark.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ann-tran.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/RitzCarltonBatteryPark-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I hope to add more hotels to my list of recommendations with next year&#8217;s adventures.\u00a0 In 2016, I\u2019m looking forward to expanding my travels into Asia to try the myriad flavors of our diverse world. Where will you go?<\/p>\n<p>If you think of the span of your entire lifetime, or so years of stuff you\u2019ve bought, it will probably end up in piles labeled buyer\u2019s remorse, keep, or scrap. But the things that stay with you over the years are the memories of travel, new experiences, and time with family and loved ones.
